Life is goooooood

This weekend was exactly what I pictured when moving to France: wine, foie gras, wine, more wine, wine.

Not only did the weather rewind back to summer (right after I bought a new winter coat! Maybe if I buy mittens in a few weeks the magic will work again?), but the annual Millesime festival was happening all weekend. The word “millesime” actually means ‘vintage year’, so as you can guess, it was a wine festival. Winemakers from all over France setup tents in Place Victor Hugo and gave everyone a little tasting of the best that they had to offer. In the background, the bands on stage were playing everything from Mozart to Django Reinhart. There were also fun tables for kids with face painting, arts and crafts and even a large “aroma” room with giant bottles of all the different scents that you can find in wine.

There was even a little fountain to rinse your glass when you go from a white wine to a red (god forbid you mix them!)

Sunday morning I went to a workshop on “Introduction to Wine Tasting’. I think half way through, I realized that I probably should’ve had a bigger breakfast and that walking around after a morning wine tasting just feels silly. I’ll be better prepared next year. The workshop itself was very informative and hopefully, I’ll feel a little bit less sheepish when someone hands me a glass to try. The key is look, smell, swoosh, smell, and then taste (with that awkward gurgly sound to “air out” the wine in your mouth).

Thanks Lin! Yes, definitely trying to stay on top of all the events happening here. This one even had foie gras sandwiches!
